Edward and Joan McGowan
In 2014, Martin Health System received the largest single philanthropic gift in the organization’s history - a planned gift of more than $10 million from Edward and Joan McGowan of Palm City. To recognize the McGowans for their generosity, the north tower at Martin Medical Center in Stuart was renamed in their honor.
At a special ceremony held on Jan. 28, 2014 friends and supporters of Martin Health System celebrated the naming of the Edward and Joan McGowan Pavilion. While Edward McGowan passed away in January 2013, his wife, Joan, family members and friends attended the ceremony.
Mark Robitaille, then president and chief executive officer of Martin Health said, “Martin Health could not be more grateful and appreciative of this outstanding gift and the lasting legacy the McGowans have made to this community. The north tower was named in their honor as a visual reminder of their generosity and recognition of the value philanthropy brings to providing exceptional patient care.”
Joan McGowan said she and Ed always believed in the importance of philanthropy and the difference it can make in the community. “We wanted to honor the care Edward received from two Martin Health physicians, Drs. Howard Robbins and Linda Kardos. At the same time, we wanted our gift to inspire this great community to help others through philanthropy.”
